- To provide a practical career planning process which will ensure the most appropriate subjects are chosen for study. These will allow access to courses identified as best suited for you and your future career.
- To ensure subjects chosen appropriately reflect your academic ability, personality and interests.
- To ensure subjects chosen allow the best possible chance of acceptance into the course and institution of your choice.
- To ensure subject choices do not unnecessarily limit possible course selection options.
Student Consultation:
- Overview of your academic record.
- Identification of your values, interests and social skills.
- Development of an understanding of personality and how it impinges on your choices.
Outcomes:
- Understanding of what you need and want out of your chosen career
- Identifying and researching possible careers
- Selecting appropriate school subjects.
- Identifying the most suitable courses and institutions for the achievement of your goals.
- Researching possible occupations.
Duration:
- An extensive interview is required. The first part of the interview will involve an evaluation. This will be followed by a review and discussion of associated findings and career planning. Follow-up contact will be made.
Please note: Our meetings are on a one-to-one basis, not group sessions. You and your future are our concern, and only an individual meeting can allow the extent of understanding we feel necessary for an accurate career assessment. Parents of students, particularly those in Year 10, are encouraged to attend and be involved in the process.
Process:
- The interview will involve assessment activities, the completion of a range of identifier tests, the writing of goals, the identification of promising courses and corresponding subjects required, and the development of action plans.
- A Personal Career Folio will be compiled. This will include a comprehensive career interest assessment, clear indications of suitable career pathways, subject selection and course prerequisites, detailed education and course information, specific information on chosen career areas and a range of core strategies for the development of an action plan.
